Wow! That really does look like a modern toke on the old classic.
This should pep up the rotation.

    Cute. Them Texas dogs?

The fact that dogs don’t keep pictures around of humans playing poker makes them look like the intelligent species.

I am hesitant to mention — and will certainly not upload nor encourage others to do so on my behalf — my other favorite manifestation of American kitsch — the Velvet Elvis.

Oh well. For the record – -I didn’t ask for this :). On the other hand, it does add a certain amount of color to the blog. Unfortunately it makes it harder for me to view at work — especially the Elvis bit as somethings are better off left not-having-to-be-explained. Also for the record, I was a fan(in hindsight because I am not that old) of the Sun Records Elvis and not the Vegas/pill popping/laxative swallowing/can top polishing/white jumpsuit Elvis. While on the topic of Elvis, if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend Bubba Ho-Tep.

@nokarmahere – I regard your comment as inadequately gratitudinous.

The “Sun Records Elvis” is not kitsch. The over-the-top drug-addled jumpsuit-splitting towel-tossing Vegas-for-all-eternity Elvis is. If you are the connoisseur of fine kitsch that you claim, you would have realized that. I’m outing you as a faux kitschfeinschmecker.

P.s.: but I did like the “for the record.” Cute.

@Barbara – You misunderstand, or perhaps I was not clear as I was sans third cup of coffee at the time. The “Sun Records Elvis” is authentic and cool. Velvet Elvis the work of art is kitsch but this does not impugn the underlying subject matter with “kitschness”. One can be both a fan of the Cool Elvis and the “Velvet Elvis/Dogs Playing Poker” kitsch and be consistent. How can I be “inned” once you have “outed” me? I fear that part of my reputation can never be restored.

Update: In my horror at being outed I forgot my manners. Barbara, thank you for your exhaustive research and tireless efforts on my behalf. In some small way I feel you have made NZC a better place for all of us.

Are your feelings small or my contribution to the betterment of ZC small? Hint: there’s only one correct answer.

With respect to your reputation, I’m afraid that’s a real toothpaste-back-in-the-tube situation. But, you are ripe for rehabilitation, and we are all about reconciliation. Your penance is to make this your desktop:

Thanks for not piling on about my ZC vs NZC typo and yes, the answer is as you hint. As I type many dogs are observing me (although the link didn’t work I was able to divine your intention). If anyone else is interested the dogs are … here although i have now noticed peace pendant on rightmost dog. Sometimes too much detail is a bad thing.

@nokarmahere – It looks like he’s ahead: a hippy French bulldog winning at doggie poker? Clearly, this is fantasy.

My Corgi habitually dozes at my feet when I’m at the computer, when she’s not scouting for chewables around the dryer. She doesn’t play cards: bingo is her vice.

@Barbara – You might also notice that the peace dog is the only one without a drink. Might have something to do with garnering the biscuits.
