“Hoffman has said he wants to give it another try, and he should be a much better prepared candidate the next time around”

Not to be cruel; but I actually saw Hoffman for the first time last night. I was unsurprised by the minor controversy, I think on the wall, as to whether he had the Howdy Doody or the Alfred E. Newman vote better locked up. He needs a complete makeover.

A gathering of congressmen looks like the bar scene in a Larry Niven story; but that’s because of the huge benefit of incumbency. To get elected in the first place they needed to convince people they were normal, sane and actually human beings, like those V aliens, and appearance is a lot of pulling off that con.

Gosh – are you suggesting that the Democrats might respond by doing something radical like taking the Republicans and popular opinion seriously? Initial signs – that BO spent election night watching a movie about himself – aren’t all good. We’ll have to see how the actual “grown-ups” in the D Party respond.
