I believe that having an asset based currency means nothing, because it can be devalued like anything else – and it has.

As to political deficiency I mean subsequent government programs that encouraged banks to forego the utilization of proper underwriting standards with the implicit knowledge that the government would bail them out if they got in trouble. And of course now, that policy has been pretty much stated. So, I take long shots that are reckless, either because I know my loss will be subsidized by the government or I wish to deter the Justice Dept from trolling around looking for some disparate impact of my lending activity which gets me in trouble. Any gains are of course huge. The government detached risk from consequences. Obama types (community organizers) were accomplices in the activity, with the expressed desire to weaken the banks and undermind the capitalist system. The banks aren’t the problem.
